My beautiful feet.

These are my feet, that hurt in the morning, especially if I wear improper shoes the day before, and probably  because I am 56 years old and things are hurting more.

When I was a child, I loved being barefoot, “pata pila”.  I could run on gravel and even burrs in the grass didn’t faze me too much.   The only way to properly climb a tree was barefoot.  I remember mom telling me my feet were black and I’d better not dare...come in the house... until they were washed. I remember the cold water from the spigot running over my feet under the hot Tucuman sun, so delicious.

Then there’s the stubbed toes..the shoes that make the outfit, painting your toenails..soccer feet., cross country feet...blistered feet from breaking in hiking boots on my first ever backpacking trip..and feet squished into 3 inch spiky heels so I can wobble down a church aisle for a friend’s wedding, yikes.

I remember my first real foot massage, which included little wooden sticks being poked at my feet.. In high school we used to massage each other’s feet and see if we could feel sensations in other parts of our bodies...I think we had a very limited knowledge of reflexology..and so it goes.

Jesus’ feet were anointed with perfume and dried with someone’s hair.  I always thought that would feel weird but now I think that probably felt really good, soft silky hair.  Jesus wore sandals, or at least that’s kind of the consensus.
I imagine sometimes they were itchy or burning from the heat.  I wonder if he loved being barefoot when he was a little boy.

And then there are verses about feet.  He enables me to tread on the heights..he make my feet like the deer.
And the other one about the feet who spread the gospel..which fits with the concept that we are Christ’s body, the church that is.  And we all get to be different parts of the body and the missionaries are the feet because they carry the gospel to new places and so when  I watch about 20 people singing to God in Thai…..that’s the body and we are in a new place with people who didn’t know the gospel before..Yay feet.

I like to move..and so I am thankful for feet.  You are my amazing feet on my body, thanks for taking to me to so many places.
and yes I do want to be anointed..Holy Spirit.
