Knee deep and up to His elbows in creation...

The preacher on Sunday was talking about how Christians tend to live with the belief that God created this world and then he decided to sit back and watch.  And so we are in this muddy muck and slogging through it.  But Jesus said His Father never stops working, and so when I walk on this Kentucky ridge I keep thinking about being knee deep,  and about God knee deep all around me, Him working.

So what if we did rise to the challenge and not picture God just watching with occasional tweaking..what if we saw Jesus, or Father or Holy Spirit in every detail and in all of creation?  Would we be some kind of animistic people? or would we be people who worship breathing or spiritualize the everyday?  I do believe there is a place of balance where physicality, in the neurons in my brain, in the deep memories held in my body, in the seeds and plants and a turtle’s hard shell, is a place where He works, where He resides.

You hold it all in your deeply lined hands, the Kentucky ridges and our nerve endings, deep in our brains you hold the dopamine or lack thereof, these are all places where you have power, where you bring what may or what will.  Your will is there and I want to know this and not the other, that view that you did this long ago and are no longer working.  I don’t want to be a “deist”to think you fold your arms across your chest and watch us, I cannot live with this.  And you call us to not only believe but to uncross our arms and open our hands too, to hold all that is dear with faith and to understand that we are covered, held-fast, growing up together with all of your creation.
